In Monduli, a village set in the highlands of the Arusha Region, schools do their best with limited resources and large classes. The local teachers welcome anyone who can bring a bit of extra energy, since even a few hours of support can make a real difference.
The project is set up to give the children a bit more time to practise their English and join in creative learning moments that often get squeezed out of the regular school routine. The Weekly Program
Weekdays
From Monday to Friday, your days are split between English lessons and creative activities at the local schools, play and time with the children, and downtime to share experiences with the other participants.
Mornings are usually for the lessons, while afternoons cover educational activities or support at the community centre, depending on the time of year.
Each day you'll also have time to plan the next day's activities, with the local coordinators on hand to talk things through.

During your stay in Monduli you'll live at the project centre, hosted within a school campus surrounded by mountains and nature. The accommodation is simple and no-frills, set up to give you a grounded experience close to the local community. Rooms are shared (2–6 people), lockable, with beds and linen provided. Bathrooms are shared: showers sometimes have hot water, other times you'll heat water using a bucket.
There's no Wi-Fi at the centre, but you can pick up a local SIM easily to stay in touch.
The common areas are the heart of life at the centre: a big garden to relax in, shared spaces for meals and evening activities run by the staff (games, barbecues and group nights). Mosquito nets aren't provided, so we'd suggest bringing your own. Laundry is by hand, with buckets and brushes available, but it can also be a nice moment to chat with the other volunteers.
Meals are prepared by the local team and include three meals a day on weekdays and two at weekends. The food is typically Tanzanian, based on rice, potatoes, maize, bananas and fresh vegetables, with meat or pulses. Drinking water and tea are always available.

For anything bigger, the city of Arusha is about an hour away on the local minibuses (dala-dala), with shopping centres, cinemas, restaurants and the option to organise safaris or trips into the nearby parks.

For an easy start, we'd recommend booking your flight to arrive on a Sunday at one of the two airports we use:
Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO): the main international hub, with direct flights from Europe or via Doha, Amsterdam or Istanbul. The transfer to Monduli takes around 2–2.5 hours.
Arusha Airport (ARK): smaller, mainly used for domestic and regional flights. It's the closest to Monduli, with a transfer of around 45–50 minutes.
📌 Recommended arrival window: Sunday between 07:00 and 18:00.
Sunday arrivals (recommended): airport pickup is included.
Saturday arrivals: possible, with an extra night at the centre (small supplement applies).
Out-of-hours arrivals: you can book a private transfer (paid) or get a taxi yourself.
📍 Meeting point at the airport: a member of our staff will be waiting in the arrivals hall with a sign with your name or the project name. If you can't spot them straight away:
Stay at the meeting point (sometimes other volunteers are still arriving).
