About section

A project that brings together children, school, and community

In Monduli, among the mountains and Maasai villages, schools do their best with simple resources and large classes. Many children have few chances to practise English and grow through creative stimulation.

That is why this project exists: to offer practical support to teachers and create learning spaces that go beyond textbooks, made up of games, songs, and everyday activities. Each participant brings not only help in the classroom, but also presence, energy, and attention.

As a volunteer, you will help children learn English in a practical and enjoyable way, support the teachers, and experience the community from the inside. An authentic experience that weaves together education, local life, and cultural exchange.

Why participate

FAQs

During your stay in Monduli, you will live at the programme centre, located within a school campus surrounded by mountains and nature. The accommodation is simple with essential comforts, designed to give you an authentic experience in close contact with the local community. Rooms are shared (2–6 people), lockable, and come with beds and bed linen provided. Bathrooms are shared: in some cases you will find hot showers, while at other times you may need to heat the water using the bucket method.

There is no Wi-Fi at the property. We recommend purchasing an eSIM so you can have a stable connection throughout your stay. With Airalo, you can buy an international eSIM that can be activated before departure, so you are connected as soon as you arrive. You can easily get one via this link.

The shared spaces are the heart of volunteer life: a large garden where you can relax, communal dining areas, and evenings organised by the staff with games, barbecues, and group activities. Mosquito nets are not provided, so we recommend bringing your own. Laundry is done by hand, with buckets and brushes available, but it can also become a moment of connection with the other participants.

Meals are prepared directly by the local team and include three meals a day on weekdays and two at weekends. The cuisine is typically Tanzanian, based on rice, potatoes, maize, bananas, and fresh vegetables, with meat- or legume-based dishes. Drinking water and tea are always available.

The centre is in a convenient and safe location: just a short walk away you will find small shops, markets, local eateries, pharmacies, and even a hospital. For anything more extensive, the town of Arusha is about an hour away and can be reached easily by local minibuses (dala-dala). There you will find shopping centres, cinemas, restaurants, and the chance to organise safaris or excursions to nearby national parks.

🛏️ Included amenities:

- Accommodation in shared rooms (2–6 people, lockable)
- 3 meals a day on weekdays, 2 at weekends
- Drinking water and tea always available
- Shared spaces and garden for relaxing and socialising
- Ongoing support from local coordinators
- Organised evening activities (games, barbecues, films)
- Access to nearby shops and essential services

The accommodation is much more than just a place to sleep: it is a meeting point where you can share daily life with other volunteers from around the world and experience the local culture up close. A simple but welcoming environment that becomes the starting point for a journey of growth, community, and exchange.
The safety of our participants is an absolute priority. All our programmes in Tanzania are carefully selected and monitored to ensure a welcoming and protected environment, both in the schools where activities take place and in the volunteer house in Monduli.

🔹 Participant screening and protected environments

To protect minors and local communities, all participants are required to provide an up-to-date criminal record certificate before departure. In , this certificate can be requested online and is exempt from stamp duty when you take part in our programmes. We will provide you with step-by-step instructions so you can obtain it easily.

🔹 On-site safety standards

We work exclusively with schools and communities that are used to welcoming international volunteers. The accommodation is in a safe area, with lockable rooms and the constant presence of local staff. Our partners host hundreds of volunteers every year and are trained to manage diverse groups, from younger participants to adults with more experience.

🔹 Ongoing support, 24/7

From the moment you arrive at the airport until the end of the programme, you can rely on continuous support from the local team, who are reachable even in the evenings and at weekends. In addition, our staff in will be available via WhatsApp for any need or emergency.

🔹 Training and orientation

Before departure, you will receive a full guide with practical information about culture, behaviour, and safety. On your first day on site, you will take part in an orientation meeting with the local team, who will explain house rules, good practices, and helpful advice so you can enjoy the experience with peace of mind.

🔹 Good practices for experiencing Tanzania safely

Tanzania is a welcoming country, but as in any international setting it is important to follow a few simple precautions:
✔ Avoid going out alone at night, especially in isolated or poorly lit areas.
✔ Move around preferably with other volunteers.
✔ Always follow the guidance and advice of the local team.

💡 Our goal is to offer you a safe and well-supported environment, so you can focus on what really matters: living an authentic, meaningful, and transformative experience.
🧭 Orientation day in Monduli

Your experience in Tanzania begins with a full day dedicated to orientation, designed to help you settle in, get to know the local culture, and approach the project with confidence and awareness.

📅 On your first Monday, the local team will guide you through an introductory programme that includes:

- Welcome meeting and presentation of the school-based education programme
- House rules and practical health and safety advice
- Introduction to Tanzanian culture and a short Swahili lesson
- Tour of Monduli village and the surrounding area: small shops, useful services, and SIM cards. If you would rather arrive with an active eSIM and avoid looking for a SIM locally, you can purchase one before departure through Airalo, our affiliated partner.
👉 You can do so using this link
- Time with the staff and other volunteers to break the ice

Orientation is not just a briefing: it is the moment when you start to feel part of the community. Between smiles, your first words in Swahili, and local curiosities, you will begin to step into the spirit of the project.

📌 From Tuesday onwards, you will take part in educational activities in primary and secondary schools, working alongside local teachers and discovering the rhythm of life in Monduli day by day.
To start your experience in the best possible way, we recommend booking a flight arriving on Sunday (the recommended day) at one of the two airports served by the programme:

Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO): the main international airport, with flights from Europe usually connecting via Doha, Amsterdam, or Istanbul. The transfer to Monduli takes about 2–2.5 hours.

Arusha Airport (ARK): smaller, mainly used for domestic/regional flights. It is the closest airport to Monduli, with a transfer of about 45–50 minutes.

📌 Recommended arrival time: Sunday between 07:00 and 18:00.

Arrival on Sunday (recommended): airport pick-up included.

Arrival on Saturday: possible, but an extra night at the accommodation is required (for an additional fee).

Arrival outside the recommended hours: you can request a personalised transfer (for a fee) or make your own way by private taxi.

📍 Meeting point at the airport A member of our staff will be waiting for you in the arrivals hall with a sign showing your name or the project name. If you do not see them straight away:

Stay at the meeting point (sometimes we are waiting for other volunteers to arrive).

Wait at least 20 minutes.

If needed, call the contact numbers you will receive before departure.

📱 A useful tip: if you want internet access as soon as you land, you can activate an eSIM before departure with Airalo, our partner. Use this link

🧳 Check-in and check-out

Arrival is expected on Sunday (the day before the project begins).

Departure is on Saturday, with check-out by 12:00.

Extra nights are available on request.

🚖 Return transfer and departure flight The return transfer is not included: the local team will help you arrange a taxi or shared transfer.

👉 We recommend booking your return flight for Sunday afternoon/evening, so you have enough time to reach the airport without rushing.

🗓️ Extend your trip Would you like to see more of Tanzania after the project? Safari, Kilimanjaro, or Zanzibar: the staff will be happy to suggest trusted contacts and safe itineraries.
