About section

In the heart of Seoul, every day hundreds of people queue for a warm meal — often the only one of their day.

The Soup Kitchen centre was created to address this essential need and to offer dignity and support to those living in vulnerable circumstances.

Here, preparing and serving a meal means more than just cooking — it means becoming part of a community that believes in everyday solidarity.

As a volunteer, you'll work alongside local staff at every stage of the day: from preparing ingredients and cooking, to serving meals and cleaning up. Every small gesture contributes to creating real impact, turning the kitchen into a place of connection, care and hope.

In Seoul, we've thought of everything to help you enjoy your experience with complete peace of mind 🏙️ All programmes are structured to ensure reliable environments and consistent support, both during activities and at the guesthouse.

💡 Our goal

🧭 Orientation day

Your Seoul journey begins with a day designed to help you discover the city, get to know the programme and learn how to navigate confidently between ancient temples and ultramodern skyscrapers 🏙️

On the first Monday, you'll take part in several activities led by the local team:

• Welcome meeting and introduction to the programme and house rules
• Practical advice on health, safety and cultural behaviour in South Korea
• Introduction to Korean culture with useful words in the language and insights into customs and habits
• Seoul City Tour: you'll discover iconic landmarks such as Gyeongbokgung and Jongmyo Shrine, giving you an immediate sense of the unique blend of modernity and tradition
• Useful information on transport, local SIM cards and neighbourhood services
• If you'd like to arrive with internet already set up, you can purchase an eSIM before departure via Airalo

As well as exploring the city, it'll be a great chance to break the ice with the other participants, share your reasons for being here and start building a sense of community right from the start 💬

📌 After the orientation

From Tuesday, your project activities will begin: from day one you'll have everything you need to make the most of your Korean experience.
✈️ Arrival recommendations for Seoul

To start your experience on the right foot, we recommend booking a flight arriving at Incheon International Airport (ICN) on Sunday between 10:00 and 17:00. During this time window, our welcome service is active: a member of our team will be waiting at the meeting point with a sign.

If you arrive outside these hours or on a different day, don't worry: you can reach the accommodation independently using public transport (Airport Railroad to Hongik University Station, about 45 minutes, then a 6-minute walk) or book a private pick-up for an extra fee. In any case, please share your flight details with us as soon as you book, so we can coordinate your arrival.

On arrival, you may need to wait for other participants before the group departs, so we just ask for a little patience. If for any reason you can't find our staff straight away, stay at the meeting point — we will find each other. After confirming your participation you'll receive a document with emergency contacts and all detailed instructions.

🚖 Departure recommendations

At the end of the programme, check-out from the accommodation is by 11:00 on Saturday. The return transfer to the airport is not included in the programme. You can easily reach Incheon (ICN) in about 1 hour on the Airport Railroad, for approximately €3. If you prefer, the local team can help you book a taxi or private transfer, which can also be shared with other volunteers.

We recommend booking your return flight for Saturday afternoon or evening, so you can check out at your leisure and reach the airport without any rush.

🗓️ Extending your trip

If you plan to continue your travels in South Korea or other Asian countries, let us know — we'd be happy to give you practical tips on how to make the most of your onward journey.

💡 After confirmation

After confirming your participation, you'll receive a comprehensive document by email with up-to-date logistical information, the local coordinator's contact details and emergency instructions.
