About section

Many students in Kathmandu dream of continuing their education, but without a solid foundation in English, they risk falling behind.

This project brings a fresh energy to the classroom, introducing creative and interactive activities that inspire children to learn.

Your role is to work alongside local teachers, contributing through conversations, games, music and small projects. Together with fellow volunteers and students, you’ll help make learning more accessible and enjoyable — all while experiencing the authentic richness of Nepali culture at first hand.

FAQs

During your stay in Kathmandu you'll live at the Program House in Dhapasi Height, about five kilometres from the city centre. The house is simple but welcoming, with spaces designed for communal living: a small garden, a mini library and lounge areas where you can relax or share moments with fellow participants.

Rooms are shared between 4 and 6 people, with the option to request a private room upgrade for those who prefer more privacy. Each room has a lock and is equipped with a fan, mosquito nets and bed linen; towels are not provided. Bathrooms are shared and have hot showers. There is no air conditioning, but Kathmandu's mild climate makes the house comfortable throughout the year.

Meals are included: three a day on weekdays and two at weekends. The food is simple and varied, alternating between Nepali and Western dishes, with a prevalence of vegetarian options. Filtered drinking water, tea and coffee are always available; if you have specific dietary needs, please let us know in advance.

The house has Wi-Fi in common areas, a safe, a shared fridge and a paid laundry service. Nearby you'll find shops, cafés and supermarkets within about a 15-minute walk.

To stay connected throughout your stay, we recommend activating an eSIM before you leave. With Airalo you can set it up in minutes and be online the moment you arrive: find out how here.

🛏️ Included services:

- Accommodation in shared or private rooms
- 3 meals per day on weekdays, 2 at weekends
- Free drinks (water, tea and coffee)
- Wi-Fi in common areas
- Safe and locked rooms
- Hot showers and bed linen provided
- Ongoing support from the local team

The Program House is much more than just a place to stay: it's a meeting point between cultures, where you can forge friendships, share stories from the day and feel part of a small international community.
The safety of our participants is our top priority. All programmes in Kathmandu are structured to ensure a welcoming and protected environment, both in the schools where you'll be working and in the Program House where you'll be staying.

🔹 Participant screening and protected environments

To safeguard minors and local communities, we require every participant to provide a criminal record certificate before departure. In this document can be obtained online and, for our programmes, is exempt from stamp duty. This simple step ensures a safe and peaceful experience for everyone.

🔹 High safety standards

We work with reliable schools and communities that are experienced in hosting travellers from around the world. The Program House is located in a quiet neighbourhood, with lockable rooms, safes and a constant local team presence. Our partners welcome hundreds of international volunteers every year — from young adults to senior participants — and are well equipped to handle this diversity.

🔹 24-hour support

From arrival to the end of your experience, you can count on continuous support from our local staff, available to help even in the evenings or at weekends. The our team will also always be reachable via WhatsApp for any need.

🔹 Training and orientation

On your first day you'll attend an orientation session that will give you all the essential information on culture, behaviour and safety. In addition, before departure you'll receive a detailed guide with practical tips to make the most of your project.

🔹 Good practices for a worry-free experience

Kathmandu is a lively and welcoming city, but as with any large urban centre it's important to keep a few things in mind:
✔ Avoid going out alone at night in isolated or poorly lit areas
✔ Prefer travelling with other volunteers
✔ Always follow the guidance and advice of the local team

💡 The goal is to provide you with a safe and welcoming environment so that you can focus on what truly matters: living a meaningful and enriching experience.
🧭 Orientation day

Your experience begins with a full day dedicated to orientation, designed to help you settle in, understand the local context and make the most of the weeks ahead.

On your first Monday you'll take part in a series of activities led by the local team:

- Welcome ceremony and ice-breaking activities with fellow participants
- Introduction to the programme, house rules and signing of the Code of Conduct
- Practical tips on health, safety and cultural behaviour in Nepal
- Introduction to Nepali culture, with insights into local customs and everyday life
- A tour of the neighbourhood around the Program House to discover ATMs, shops and useful services
- Help with buying local SIM cards or other small necessities. If you prefer to arrive with an eSIM already active so you don't have to find a SIM locally, you can purchase one before departure through Airalo, our affiliate partner.
👉 You can do so using this link

Orientation day is also a chance to start getting to know each other, share your reasons for coming and learn from those who know Kathmandu and its everyday reality.

📌 After this introductory day, from Tuesday you'll head straight into the classroom and begin your teaching journey alongside the students.
We recommend booking a flight arriving at Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM) in Kathmandu on a Sunday, between 06:00 and 24:00. During this window our welcome and transfer service to the Program House in Dhapasi Height is active.

The included pick-up is scheduled for 16:00 on Sunday: a member of our team will be waiting at the meeting point with a sign.

If you arrive on Saturday, you'll need to book an extra night (with a surcharge).

If you arrive outside the scheduled hours or on a different day, you can choose:

a personalised transfer (for a small additional fee), or

make your own way by taxi, after agreeing the details with the local team in advance.

📌 Important: if you don't find our staff straight away, do not leave the meeting point. Stay there and we'll find you! After confirmation you'll receive emergency numbers and practical instructions to keep with you at all times.

📱 A useful tip: if you want internet access from the moment you arrive, you can activate an eSIM before departure with Airalo, our partner. Use this link

The journey from the airport to the Program House takes about 45 minutes by taxi (traffic permitting). You may be able to share the ride with other participants arriving at the same time.

🚖 Departure and return flight recommendations Check-out from the Program House is by 12:00 on Saturday.

Return transport is not included: each participant arranges their own taxi to the airport (average cost 600–1000 NPR, approximately €5–8).

We recommend booking your return flight on Saturday afternoon or evening, so you have plenty of time to leave the house comfortably and reach the airport without rushing.

If you're continuing your travels in Nepal or elsewhere, let us know in advance — we'll be happy to offer useful advice on planning your onward journey.

💡 After your participation is confirmed you'll receive a detailed email with all practical instructions, emergency contacts and local team information.
