About section

In Tigman Village, the project brings the local community together to care for the coastlines and raise environmental awareness among the next generation.

In Tigman Village, plastic frequently ends up in the sea or washes onto the beaches, damaging fish, coral reefs, and the daily lives of local families.

In response, the community began creating eco-bricks and planting new mangroves, involving young people and volunteers from around the world. Every small, consistent daily action contributes to protecting the ecosystem that sustains life on the island.

If you decide to join, you'll discover how simple acts — collecting rubbish or sharing stories of sustainability in local schools — can make a real difference and leave a lasting positive impact on both the environment and the people who call this place home.

FAQs

Your accommodation is located at the heart of Tigman Village, in Aborlan — a centre built with simple, natural materials that reflects the tropical spirit of the Philippines. Just steps from the sea, it hosts all volunteers joining programs in Palawan, creating a welcoming, international atmosphere.

Rooms are shared between 4 and 8 people, furnished with bunk beds, a fan, and air conditioning. Doors can be locked and a safe is available at the main building for valuables. Towels are not provided, but bed linen and mosquito nets are included for a comfortable night's sleep. Bathrooms are shared, with ambient-temperature showers, in keeping with the simple village lifestyle.

Wi-Fi is available in common areas but may be limited or unavailable during bad weather. We recommend purchasing an eSIM before departure to stay connected throughout your stay. With Airalo, you can buy an international eSIM that activates before you leave, so you're online as soon as you land. You can get one easily at this link.

Laundry can be done by hand or through an external paid laundry service.

The centre's kitchen prepares three meals a day on weekdays and two on weekends, serving local dishes alongside some Western options. Rice, chicken, fish, vegetables, and tropical fruit form the basis of the menus, while breakfast typically includes eggs, bread, pancakes, coffee, or tea. Staff can accommodate dietary requirements with advance notice.

The accommodation is designed not just as a place to rest, but as a gathering space. The common areas, proximity to the sea, and evening activities make this centre the social heart of volunteer life — a place to share meals, stories from the day, and moments of relaxation together.

🛏️ Included amenities:

- Shared room accommodation for 4–8 people
- 3 meals a day on weekdays, 2 on weekends
- Basic drinks (water, tea, and coffee)
- Wi-Fi in common areas (limited connectivity)
- Bed linen provided
- Mosquito nets and fans in all rooms
- Safe at the main building
- Ongoing support from the local team

This centre is designed to offer you a simple, authentic experience in close contact with the local community and the natural beauty of Palawan — without compromising on safety or the welcoming atmosphere that makes it feel like home.
The safety of our participants is our absolute priority. Every program is carefully selected to ensure a calm, safe, and well-organised environment — both in the schools and in the facilities where you'll be staying during your time in Palawan.

🔹 Participant screening and protected environments

To protect children and local communities, all participants must provide a criminal record check before departure. In , this can be requested online without a revenue stamp when intended for volunteer programs. This screening is essential to ensure a safe and respectful experience for everyone.

🔹 Safe and supervised facilities

The Tigman Village centre is situated in a quiet, welcoming area surrounded by the local community. Rooms have lockable doors, a safe is available for valuables, and the local team is always on hand to supervise and offer support. We only partner with schools and communities that are experienced in hosting international volunteers and meet established safety standards.

🔹 24/7 support

From the moment you arrive at the airport until you depart, you'll be looked after by an experienced local team available in the evenings and at weekends for any need that arises. In addition, our HQ team is always on hand via WhatsApp for quick assistance whenever you need it.

🔹 Orientation and training

On your first day you'll take part in an introductory session covering house rules, practical tips, and cultural insights to help you make the most of your experience. We'll also give you clear guidance on how to get around, what to avoid, and how to stay safe at all times.

🔹 Day-to-day safety tips

Palawan is one of the most peaceful and welcoming destinations in the Philippines, but as with any location, it's worth staying alert:
✔ Avoid walking alone at night in isolated areas
✔ Move around in groups with other volunteers
✔ Always follow the guidance of local staff

💡 Our goal is to provide you with a safe, supported, and welcoming environment where you can live the experience with peace of mind and focus on what truly matters: teaching, sharing, and learning alongside the local community.
🧭 Orientation day

Your Palawan experience begins with a full day dedicated to orientation, designed to help you settle in, get to know the local community, and start your journey with confidence.

On your first Monday, you'll take part in a series of guided activities led by the local team:

- Welcome meeting, program overview, and introduction to house rules
- Practical advice on health, safety, and cultural etiquette
- Introduction to Filipino culture, dress code, and key phrases in the local language
- Village tour and guided walk of the surrounding area, with tips on shops, transport, and key landmarks
- Help with purchasing a local SIM and any other immediate practical needs. Alternatively, if you'd prefer to arrive already connected without having to find a SIM on arrival, you can buy one in advance through Airalo, our affiliate partner.
👉 You can do so using this link

Orientation is also the perfect chance to start bonding with fellow participants, meet the staff, and share your reasons for coming. It's the moment your experience truly begins — guided by people who live and breathe the local community every day.

From Tuesday you'll be fully immersed in the activities, but from day one you'll already feel like part of the Palawan community.
✈️ Flight and arrival recommendations To make the most of your experience from day one, we recommend booking a flight that arrives at Puerto Princesa International Airport (PPS) on a Sunday between 10:00 and 17:00. During this window, our free welcome and transfer service to Tigman Village is active.

If you arrive on Saturday, you will need to book an extra night (at an additional cost).

If you arrive outside these hours, you can arrange a private paid transfer or make your own way to the centre. In any case, please share your flight details with us as soon as you book, so we can plan your arrival properly.

At Puerto Princesa Airport, one of our coordinators will be waiting for you at the arrivals exit, holding a clearly visible sign. You may need to wait briefly for other participants arriving at a similar time, as you'll share the transfer to the centre.

📱 Handy tip: if you want to have internet as soon as you land, you can activate an eSIM before your departure through Airalo, our partner. Use this link

The drive from the airport to the centre takes around 1.5–2 hours, giving you a first taste of Palawan's landscapes along the way.

If for any reason you can't find our staff at the meeting point, stay put — we'll find you! You'll receive emergency contact details after your booking is confirmed.

🚖 Departure recommendations Check-out from the centre is by 12:00 on Saturday. The return transfer to the airport is not included, as participants typically depart at different times.

Our staff will help you arrange a bus or private taxi, which can also be shared with other volunteers. The approximate cost is around 130 PHP for the bus + 2 tricycles (~140 PHP), or ≤2,000 PHP by taxi.

We recommend booking your return flight from the afternoon onwards to give yourself enough time to leave the centre and reach the airport without rushing.

🗓️ If you plan to continue travelling elsewhere in the Philippines, let us know in advance — we'll be happy to give you useful tips for planning your itinerary.

💡 After your booking is confirmed, you'll receive an email with all the up-to-date practical instructions and contact details for our local team.
