About section

In Hua Hin, the project supports the recovery of coastal ecosystems and environmental awareness in the local community.

In Hua Hin, the mangroves are key to protecting the coastline, supporting marine biodiversity and softening the effects of climate change. In recent years, though, these forests have been hit hard by urban development and pollution, with a knock-on effect on the local communities.

To respond to that, the project brings together environmental protection and awareness work. Volunteers work alongside the local coordinators looking after the nurseries, planting new mangroves and helping with beach and public-space clean-ups.

Taking part means more than helping protect a fragile ecosystem: it also means passing on the importance of sustainability to the next generation, building a real link between nature, community and travellers.

Why participate

Help look after the planet

Plant mangroves, take part in clean-ups and back hands-on action against pollution.

🏡 The houses

At both: lockable rooms, personal lockers and everything you need to feel comfortable.

🍽️ Meals

Included: 3 a day on weekdays and 2 at weekends. Home-style cooking, vegetarian-friendly, with Thai dishes (rice, noodles, vegetables, fruit). Town has lots of restaurants and street food if you want to mix it up.

🛏️ What's included

Shared rooms (Sunshine) or private rooms (Paradee, if available)
3 meals on weekdays, 2 at weekends
• Free drinks: water, tea, coffee
Pool and common areas to relax
Lockers and lockable rooms
Air conditioning in the rooms
24/7 support from the local team

📶 Wi-Fi, linen & laundry

Towels not provided (linen is). Laundry available for a fee, or hand-wash. Wi-Fi is in the common areas and can be slow at times: to stay properly online, consider a local SIM or an eSIM through Airalo before you travel.

💦 Living at the houses

Between a dip in the pool, a shared recipe and a chat in the evenings, the accommodation becomes part of the experience: relaxed, sociable, with plenty of stories to take home.
🛡️ Safety and support

In Hua Hin your safety comes first 🌞 We only work with reliable local partners, looked after by our team throughout, so you can settle in confidently both during the work and in your free time.

🔹 Background checks and safe spaces
Every volunteer is asked to provide a criminal record check (DBS or equivalent) before travelling. We will walk you through the steps: a simple formality that gives peace of mind to you, the other participants and the community hosting us.

🔹 Solid safety standards
• Conservation activities always supervised by experienced coordinators
• Clear instructions and safe tools for everyone
• Accommodation with lockable rooms and personal lockers
• Safe residential areas, close to shops and medical centres

🔹 24/7 support
The local team is always on hand, evenings and weekends included, for any question or hiccup. And if you need us, our UK team is reachable on WhatsApp anytime 📲

🔹 Briefing and orientation
On your first day you will get a full briefing: site safety, good practice for working as a group and cultural pointers for interacting respectfully with the local community.

🔹 A few sensible habits
✔ Wear suitable shoes and clothing during the activities.
✔ Use only the tools the coordinators have shown you.
✔ Avoid going out on your own at night or in isolated areas.
✔ Always follow the local team's advice.

💡 Our aim
A safe, welcoming and engaging setting, so you can focus on what really matters: working together, growing and getting to know Thailand from the inside 🇹🇭
🧭 Orientation day

In Hua Hin we kick off with a day all about you: the aim is to help you settle in, see how local life works and feel part of the group from day one.

On Monday, with the local team, you will get a relaxed but thorough introduction to your new world:

• Welcome meeting and programme introduction
• Practical advice on health, safety and good practice for outdoor work
• A look at Thai culture, with stories and basic words in Thai
• A lesson on local customs: what to do, what to avoid and how to get around respectfully
• Guided tour of the area with useful stops (supermarkets, transport, medical centres, key landmarks)
• Pointers on getting a local SIM, or the option to arrive with an eSIM already active through Airalo

Beyond the practical info, it is also a great moment to meet the other volunteers, swap motivations and start feeling part of the community 💛

📌 From Tuesday it is on!

From Tuesday, you will start the conservation and awareness activities, side by side with the local community.
✈️ Arrival tips

For an easy start, we recommend booking a flight that arrives at Bangkok – Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) on Sunday, ideally between 06:00 and 16:00. Within these hours the welcome and transfer to Hua Hin is up and running.

If you arrive on a Saturday, you will need to book an extra night at our accommodation (small supplement applies).

If you arrive after 16:00, we can still arrange the transfer (small extra applies), or you can make your own way.

If your flight lands at Don Mueang Airport (DMK), you will need to make your own way to Suvarnabhumi (BKK), since pickups only run from there.

Please send us your flight details as soon as you book, so we can sort the bus ticket and the welcome.

📍 Meeting point

The meeting point is at Level 2, Gate 3 at Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK). A member of our staff will be waiting with a sign. 👉 If you cannot spot them straight away, stay there: the team will reach you. Do not move on your own.

🧳 Luggage

The included bus ticket allows up to 20 kg. If you have extra luggage, you may pay a small fee (refundable up to 50 kg by showing the receipt to the local staff).

🕑 Travel time to Hua Hin

The trip from the airport to Hua Hin takes around 4–5 hours (bus plus local transfer). You may share the journey with other participants arriving around the same time.

🚖 Departure tips

Check-out from the accommodation is by 12:00 on Saturday. The return transfer to the airport is not included, since participants leave at very different times. That said, our staff will happily help you book a taxi or a bus, also shared with other travellers.

We would suggest booking your return flight for Saturday evening or Sunday morning, so you can leave the accommodation in your own time and get to the airport without rushing. If you are planning to carry on travelling in Thailand (Bangkok, the islands or other cities), let us know in advance: our team will give you practical tips to sort the transfers.

💡 After confirmation

Once your booking is confirmed, you will receive an updated email with all the practical info and emergency contacts.
