About section

In Hua Hin, the local kindergartens welcome children aged 2 to 6 who often spend their days in big classes with limited resources.

In a local kindergarten, every small thing counts: a smile, a game or a song can really shape how the youngest children grow.

This project supports the teachers, who often struggle to give every child the attention they need, by adding a bit more warmth and creative input for early English learning and other basic skills.

As a participant, you'll join the children through the day, from lessons to playtime and care, bringing energy and a friendly presence. It's an experience that pairs the discovery of Thai culture with the joy of supporting the youngest children as they grow.

FAQs

🌞 Your accommodation in Hua Hin

You'll be based at the Sunshine House or, alternatively, at the Paradee House. Both are in quiet areas close to town, with easy access to shops, markets and services. Comfortable, practical and with common spaces where you can relax and meet other volunteers.

🏡 The accommodation

Sunshine House: shared rooms (4–12 beds), air conditioning, shared bathrooms, common areas with a pool and garden.
Paradee House (subject to availability): private rooms with bathroom, fridge, kettle and access to a smaller pool.
Both have lockable rooms, personal lockers and everything you need to feel at home.

🍽️ Meals

Included: 3 a day on weekdays and 2 at weekends. Home-style cooking, vegetarian-friendly, with Thai dishes (rice, noodles, vegetables, fruit). In town you'll find plenty of restaurants and street food if you fancy a change.

🛏️ What's included

Shared rooms (Sunshine) or private (Paradee, when available)
3 meals on weekdays, 2 at weekends
• Free drinks: water, tea, coffee
Pool and common areas to relax
Lockers and rooms with locks
Air conditioning in the rooms
24/7 support from the local team

📶 Wi-Fi, linen & laundry

Towels not provided (linen yes). Laundry available for a small fee or hand-wash. Wi-Fi in the common areas, sometimes slow: to stay easily connected, consider a local SIM or an eSIM with Airalo before you travel.

💦 Living the houses

Between a dip in the pool, a recipe shared and a chat in the evening, the accommodation becomes part of the experience: relax, social time and plenty of stories to remember.
🛡️ Safety and support

In Hua Hin your safety comes first 🌞 We only work with reliable local partners, monitored constantly by our team, so you can settle in confidently both during the activities and in your free time.

🔹 Background checks and safe spaces
Each volunteer is asked to provide a criminal record check (DBS or equivalent) before travelling. We'll guide you through the process step by step: a simple but important step that gives peace of mind to you, the other participants and the community hosting us.

🔹 High safety standards
• Activities always supervised by experienced coordinators
• Clear instructions and safe materials for every participant
• Accommodation with lockable rooms and personal lockers
• Quiet residential areas, close to shops and medical centres

🔹 24/7 support
The local team is always on hand, evenings and weekends included, for any question or unexpected issue. Our UK team is also reachable on WhatsApp whenever you need us 📲

🔹 Briefing and orientation
On day one you'll get a full briefing: safety on site, good practice for working in a group, and cultural pointers for getting on well with the local community.

🔹 A few sensible habits
✔ Wear suitable shoes and clothing during activities.
✔ Only use the materials shown to you by the coordinators.
✔ Avoid going out on your own at night or in isolated areas.
✔ Always follow the local team's advice.

💡 Our aim
To give you a safe, welcoming and stimulating environment, so you can focus on what really matters: working together, growing and getting a real feel for the heart of Thailand 🇹🇭
🧭 Orientation day

In Hua Hin, you start with a full day all about you: settling in, getting a feel for local life and feeling part of the group from day one.

On the Monday, with the local team, you'll get a relaxed but full introduction to your new surroundings:

• Welcome meeting and programme introduction
• Practical tips on health, safety and good practice for working outdoors
• A short introduction to Thai culture, with stories and a few first words in Thai
• A session on local customs: what to do, what to avoid and how to move around respectfully
• Guided tour of the area with useful stops (supermarkets, transport, medical centres, key landmarks)
• Tips on getting a local SIM, or the option to arrive already connected with an active eSIM via Airalo

Beyond the practical info, it's also a nice moment to meet the other volunteers, swap motivations and start finding your rhythm together 💛

📌 From Tuesday it's on!

From Tuesday you'll start the activities at the kindergarten, alongside the local community.
✈️ Arrival tips

For an easy start, we'd recommend booking your flight into Bangkok – Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) on a Sunday, ideally between 06:00 and 16:00. That's when our pickup and transfer to Hua Hin is running.

If you arrive on Saturday, you'll need to book an extra night at the house (small supplement applies).

If you arrive after 16:00, the transfer is still possible with a small extra, or you can make your own way.

If your flight lands at Don Mueang Airport (DMK), you'll need to make your own way to Suvarnabhumi (BKK), since pickups only run from there.

Please send us your flight details as soon as you book, so we can sort your bus ticket and arrange the welcome.

📍 Meeting point

The meeting point is at Level 2, Gate 3 of Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK). A member of our team will be waiting with a sign. 👉 If you can't spot them straight away, stay where you are: the team will come to you. Don't wander off on your own.

🧳 Luggage

The included bus ticket allows up to 20 kg. If you have extra luggage, there may be a small surcharge (refundable up to 50 kg on showing the receipt to the local team).

🕑 Travel time to Hua Hin

The journey from the airport to Hua Hin takes around 4–5 hours (bus plus local transfer). You may share it with other participants arriving around the same time.

🚖 Heading home: return flight tips

Check-out from the house is by 12:00 on Saturday. The return transfer to the airport isn't included, since participants leave at very different times. That said, our team will happily help you book a taxi or a bus, even shared with other travellers.

We'd suggest booking your return flight for Saturday evening or Sunday morning, so you can leave the house in your own time and get to the airport without rushing. If you're carrying on with your trip in Thailand (e.g. Bangkok, the islands or other cities), let us know in advance: our team will share practical tips to help with transfers.

💡 Once your booking is confirmed

We'll email you an updated pack with all the practical info and emergency contacts.
