What it means to travel in a group with HeyLocals

Travelling in a group with HeyLocals does not mean following a pre-packaged itinerary. It is an organised and shared experience, where you travel with a few people and spend several weeks immersed in the project, supported by local coordinators, staff and the community that hosts you.

It is not about doing everything or changing the world in two weeks, but about contributing consciously to real projects run year-round by local teams. Once you arrive, our staff helps you settle in and your days flow between activities in your chosen projects, moments of discovery, relaxation and free time shared with the group.

The key elements (in practice)

Small group, right vibe

From 4 to 15 people: enough to truly support projects and build bonds, without becoming a "crowd".

Fixed dates, all-inclusive

Fixed departure dates. Accommodation, meals and daily essentials included — no group kitty, no bills to split, no surprises.

Local support + orientation

Our coordinators are local people who live there and manage the projects. On arrival there is onboarding, context and clear rules, then you are always in touch with the local team and fantastic local guys and girls.

Social impact and exploration

Through the projects and field activities you discover cities and territories from the perspective of those who live there every day. A deep, concrete exploration truly connected to local culture.

How does a group project work?

👥

The group forms before departure

Each group is made up (usually) of 4 to 15 participants. After booking and paying the deposit you officially join the forming group.

Group confirmation

The group is confirmed within 30 days of departure and in the vast majority of cases it forms without issues.

🛡️

If the minimum isn't reached, you're covered

If the group doesn't reach the minimum number, your experience is still guaranteed: you can still go (even if there are fewer of you), transfer your deposit to another date/destination or request a full refund.

💬

You get to know each other before departure

Once the group is confirmed, within two weeks of departure we open a dedicated WhatsApp group: you get to know each other, share practical info and prepare together.

FAQs

No. Many people travel alone: that's exactly what the group is for. You immediately find yourself with people who share your vibe in an organised context.
Usually between 4 and 15 participants. It is a small number: enough to build bonds, enough to live a real community experience.
With a group trip you have fixed dates and a shared dimension. On site, however, you still experience an international context (often there are also travellers from other countries in the same accommodation).
Usually no. Basic to intermediate English is enough: it is needed to communicate with the local staff and other participants.
On average 4–6 hours on weekdays. The rest is preparation, group activities and free time to explore.
