A group trip with HeyLocals isn't a packaged itinerary. It's an organised, shared experience: you travel with a small group and spend a couple of weeks alongside a project, supported by local coordinators, staff and the community hosting you.
It isn't about doing it all or changing the world in two weeks. It's about contributing thoughtfully to projects that already run year-round, led by local teams. Once you arrive, our team helps you settle in and your days flow between activities on your project, exploring, downtime and free time with the group.
4 to 15 people: enough to genuinely support the project and build proper friendships, without it feeling like a coach tour.
Set departure dates. Accommodation, meals and daily essentials included, no group kitty, no bills to split, no surprises.
Our coordinators are local people who live there and run the projects. You'll get a proper onboarding on arrival, the context, the rules, who's who, and you'll be in regular contact with the local team throughout.
Between project activities and time on the ground, you'll see the country through the eyes of the people who live there, not just the standard tourist sights.
Accommodation, meals and daily essentials, no group kitty, no hidden fees.
Your fee directly supports our local partner, plus the on-site team and proper onboarding on arrival.
Project work (4–6 hrs/day) plus free time. The group makes everything simpler and more sociable.
Most groups are made up of 4 to 15 travellers. Once you've booked and paid the deposit, you're officially part of the forming group.
Groups are confirmed up to 30 days before departure. In the vast majority of cases, they come together without issue.
If the group doesn't hit the minimum number, you're not stuck: you can still go with a smaller group or move your deposit to another date or destination.
Once the group is confirmed, we set up a WhatsApp group within two weeks of departure. You get to know each other, share practical info and prep together.
In a couple of minutes we'll work it out together: the kind of experience you're after (education, community, health, nature), your English level, your budget and your vibe. Then we'll point you to the options that fit, and tell you straight away if something isn't the right call.
Goal: A structured set-up, dates, onboarding, support, without losing the freedom and spontaneity of travel.
Goal: A ready-made group from day one, to share accommodation, days and free time with.
Goal: Getting into local life, routines, people, context, not just the highlights.
Goal: Supporting a serious, vetted project with sensible roles and clear rules.
Goal: A balance of project activities and free time, the group makes both better.
